www.cyndislist.com - Cyndi's List contains '236,250 categorized & cross-referenced links' on everything under the sun relating to genealogy. But beware, you can get very sidetracked.
www.familyrecords.gov.uk - Portal to Public Records Offices, etc. and National Archives.
www.familysearch.org - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (referred to as LDS on many sites). Includes 1880/81 US, UK and Canadian Censuses.
freebmd.rootsweb.com - FreeBMD, Project to transcribe BMD records and make available free - related to FreeCEN (Free Census) and FreeREG (Free Parish Register) projects.
www.familia.org.uk - UK and Ireland guide to genealogical resources in public libraries
www.imagepartners.co.uk/Thesaurus/Search.aspx - Surname matching software, demonstrates Image Partners software - useful for finding name variations, including which are in the 1881 census.

UK Census Records and Births, Marriages, Deaths (BMD)
www.ancestry.co.uk - UK Census and BMD, plus more. Free searching of BMD index and census indexes (use 'Best Matches' free on ?all census years 1851-1901). Free details from 1881 census. One day they will probably get some of my money! US site www.ancestry.com has US census, etc.
www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk - 1901 Census at the National Archives - searching the index is free, more detail involves payment.
www.1837online.com - 'Pay per View' access to Births, Marriages, Deaths and the 1861 Census, plus some background.

www.historicaldirectories.org - Digital library of local and trade directories for England and Wales, from 1750 to 1919. Includes several for Yorkshire and Derbyshire. Includes various search facilities and provides pages as pdfs.
